Who is our client?
Our client is a leading food manufacturer, producing a broad range of leading branded and retailer own label products. This is a great time to join as the business; output has quadrupled over the last 5 years and they are part way through a new engineering strategy which has seen significant investment in the site. They're now looking for a proactive, enthusiastic engineer who can play a key role in driving standards and improving performance.
The role requirements
Working as part of the engineering maintenance team, you will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of a range of manufacturing and packaging equipment across a high volume, fast paced food business.
You will work with a high level of autonomy, following PPM schedules and responding quickly to breakdowns in order to minimise downtime and ensure a high level of service is provided.
The site is performing well so most of your time will be spent following PPM schedules and you will also have the opportunity to work on CI initiatives as well as getting involved in Capex projects.
What sort of people are we looking for?
You will be an apprentice trained, multi-skilled Engineer with experience of working in maintenance engineering roles and, preferably, with further relevant qualifications (HNC or above).
A background in food manufacturing would be ideal but our client is more interested in attitudes and behaviours so other FMCG industries (eg, pharmaceutical, automotive, printing, consumer/household goods) will be considered.
Our client places a strong emphasis on teamwork; the site is fast paced and busy, so they're looking for somebody who is proactive, keen to solve problems and can work well with colleagues in engineering and across the wider business.
In addition to your planned/reactive experience, you will have a sound knowledge and understanding of a range of tools, techniques and methodologies (5S, Lean, Kaizen, TPM).
You will also, ideally, have experience of fault finding using PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens S5/S7, Mitsubishi)
